The previous night had been a big one. Everyone who was alive was out partying. It wasn’t really a written holiday but for some reason it was set in everyone’s mind that was a local that it was a party day. It was like Marti Gras minus the parades. People waltzed around with beer, so drunk. Then there was the clubs which were packed with people who just wanted to forget their problems for a while. Salem was one that was always looking for an excuse to have some fun. She had dragged Caden to one of the biggest clubs in town. She was always forcing him to go partying with her, telling him that he would never find a girl if he didn’t have a social life. She was in fact always teasing him about having a girlfriend. She was like a sibling to him so it only came natural. When they had gotten there, the bar announced free beers in the next 5 minutes and so everyone rushed in, drinking straight from the tap. After many drinks everyone started to feel silly and the club started to get wild. Next thing you know….
Dawn was quickly approaching as the pair of bodies lay cuddled up next to each other, fast asleep. The innocence of the rising sun would soon be clouded by the mistakes of human nature. When the two would wake up and realized what had happened the previous night, well an awkward conversation could be expected to follow. The girl’s body stirred first. While her eyes were still closed shut, Salem felt her surroundings. She ignored her pounding head for a moment to notice that her body was against a body, male. She didn’t really think much of it other than that she must’ve gotten drunk the previous night and had a one night stand with some lucky guy. She attempted to fall back to sleep but she got this feeling inside of her that made her brain question the situation. She was actually freaking herself so much that she was scared to open her eyes. What the worst that could happen though? She, with her eyes still shut, reached forward placing her lips on the males hoping to wake him. Maybe his voice could confirm that her foolish thoughts were false.
She decided to take a peek and one eyes fluttered open and then the other to get a better look. At first nothing registered, just another body. As her eyes adjusted to the lighting she found something oddly familiar with this body. Then it hit her, it was so obviously her best friend Caden. “ Caden?!” she was glad that she was the first to find out but still she was filled with shock. How she ended up in the same bed as her best friend, she didn’t know. Maybe they didn’t do anything….She looked around seeing their clothing scattered, yeah they definitely did something. She let out a confused and overwhelmed sigh and fell back into the bed. What were they going to do now? She looked over to him seeing if her exclaim woke him. She wondered if she could reach her clothes without exposing any of her body. The last thing she wanted was for him to see her naked because there was always a possibility that he didn’t remember a thing. To top this all off her head felt like two symbols were crashing together with her head in the middle. She shouldn't have drank so much that night.

c.aden [/size] Caden, who had never really been one for partying, or anything that revolved around other people, had been dragged out from his room at nine p.m. the previous night and hadn't come home until he was drunk enough that he couldn't tell right from left. The partying had been wonderful, of course, well...it was wonderful after Salem had convinced him that a few drinks wouldn't do any harm...He was never taking her advice again. But, in his drunken haze, he did things he never would've done normally. He flirted with anything with two legs, and even though he was a horrible dancer, no one paid him any attention. When the bar announced free drinks, he was one of the first ones drinking straight from the tap. Everything after that seemed a bit of a messy haze.
As the sunlight began to slant through the window, a half-awake boy began to worry. His own room didn't have a window that the light would shine through like that. The silence of morning was welcome, for the boy had a throbbing headache. Never, ever was he going barhopping with Salem again. It was then that he focused on his surroundings, he kept his eyes closed, almost afriad of what he would find if he opened them. The first thing he noticed was another body curled against his, out of habit, he wrapped his arm around the girl's torso. Although Caden had never had a real exciting personal life, he wasn't clueless when it came to one night stands. It was now that he felt the girl's lips find their place on his, Caden's eyes opened, and, guy or not a guy, he stifled a scream. As Salem's eyes opened, her reaction proved that she remembered nothing at all.
Maybe, just maybe, nothing happened. Maybe they just ended up falling asleep on the same bed. Sitting bolt upright, the boy's eyes scanned the room, afraid of what he would see. And, sure enough, scattered around Salem's usually-clean bedroom were articles of clothing, both male and female. "Fuck..." He groaned running his hands through his hair. Talk about an awkward morning after. His best friend? Really, he might've been drunk but what was he thinking?! He had just made one of the worst possible mistakes you could make. Having sex with your best friend. At least Salem was female. God only knows what today would be like if she was a guy. Then another thought hit him....He could have gotten her pregnant. They'd both been three sheets to the wind, and he assumed that in their alcohol-driven minds, neither of them thought about responsibility. Caden looked down, realizing that this wasn't about to get any better. He was also contemplating how he could reach his boxer shorts and his jeans without flashing Salem....

On t.v. shows there were always incidents involving one night stands or a plot with a best friend but Salem had always laughed at those shows because who in their right mind would sleep with their best friend? It was also true that they hadn’t really been in their right mind, they both had been hammered. Salem couldn’t really concentrate on the problem at hand. She squinted trying to get rid of the horrible pounding. She buried her head in her pillow because the lighting didn’t help at all. She pulled the sheets up making sure that none of her body was exposed. She tilted her head with her eyes closed and spoke “ You put your clothes on first and go downstairs. I’ll be down there after I kill myself first” she of course wouldn’t actually kill herself but she wished that she didn’t have to deal with this situation. She waited as he got out of bed and got dressed. When he had left the room she shifted so that she was looking up at her ceiling. Her many posters of bands seemed to mock her. She let out a groan, frustrated with herself.
She knew that she couldn’t leave him downstairs for too long because he would start thinking that she was mad at him and she wasn’t. It wasn’t really either of their faults. Well she had dragged Caden out to get drunk so it was mostly her fault but she just didn’t want Caden to take the blame. She threw her sheets off herself. She started looking around for her clothes. She found her thong first and then her tutu like thing then the bra and the shirt was the last thing. She put them on, not really caring about if the outfit was wild or not. Well they hadn’t been drunk enough not to know how to take clothes off in the right order. It always seemed like the girls shirt always came off first. She shook her head and went to her mirror to inspect the damage. When she saw herself she knew that she definitely did some rowdy things last night because she had ‘sex hair’. She grabbed a brush and brushed through her hair then got rid of her smudge makeup. When she looked more presentable she exited her room and went downstairs.
She looked around as she got downstairs. She didn’t see Caden, but she shrugged and walked into the kitchen. She headed for the coffee maker and started to brew some hoping that it would help the horrible pounding. She knew that she was probably past the no return point and the only thing that would cure it would be sleep. Once she got the coffee brewing she went to find Caden. She gave up the hunt after a minute or two. She would give him some space” I’ll be in the living room” she told him. The worst thing about this is that Caden was the most comfortable person to hang around normally but this day it was the exact opposite. She didn’t want this to ruin their friendship but anything was possible. She plopped down on the couch and buried her head in the pillows of the couch. She was trying to stay calm on the outside but in the inside she kept cursing words that she didn’t even think she knew.

c.aden.Like everyone else with a best friend of the opposite sex, Caden had thought about what would happen if he ever found himself sleeping with Salem. Of course, he'd never thought it would actually happen and now that it had, he was panicking. What would happen to their friendship? What if she was pregnant? Caden wasn't fit to be a teenage father. He knew that, and he hoped to God that Salem realized that, too. If his parents had still been around, they would've had Caden propose to Salem as soon as he found out that he'd had sex with her. And they wouldn't have taken no for an answer. He sighed, and looked over at his best friend, and attempted a fake smile. "Hey, I could've been your worst enemy. Think about that. Sleeping with someone you hate." Caden was attempting to make light of the situation, but they both had hangovers and neither were exactly pleased about the turn of events that had led to last night. Caden didn't make a comment as Salem told him she was going to kill herself, he knew that she was just as freaked out as he was. Pushing back her blankets, he quickly got dressed, not wanting to draw out any time around her. Finding his way out her door and downstairs, he knew she was mad at him.
Why wouldn't she be mad? It had to have been his fault. At least Salem didn't usually pick up random guys at bars. But, then again, Caden wasn't a random guy. He had been with her at the bar, but he was like Salem's brother, not a lover. Absently, he ran his fingers over the raised scars on his wrists and arm. It had been almost two years since he had last cut, but the scars from his 'problems' were still there. Caden found himself in Salem's living room, and he promptly began beating his head against a wall--literally. Of course, the beating his head against a wall didn't help the pounding headache he had, or help the fact that he'd just woken up, naked, beside his best friend. "Fuck. Fuck. Fuckiddy fuck fuck." He muttered, he wished he could just pinch himself and he'd wake up from this nightmare, but he knew that wasn't going to happen...But, a boy can dream, can't he? Caden heard Salem come downstairs, but didn't pay her any notice as she headed into the kitchen, he just kept up his rhythm of hit, curse, hit, curse twice, hit. The smell of brewing coffee made him want to hurl, but he didn't have anything left in his stomach to get rid of. He could hear Salem walking around, probably looking for him.
As Salem plopped down on her couch, Caden thought that maybe he ought to take some initiative. Sighing, the boy walked over to the couch and perched himself on the back of the couch. His fingertips lightly ran over her back. To an outsider, it might have looked like Caden was still trying to put the moves on Salem. It might've looked like an intimate sign of affection. But, really it wasn't. She was still his best friend and he still had to comfort her when she felt like shit. It was part of the best friend law. He wasn't quite sure what to say to her, so he kept silent, but continued to lightly rub her back. Salem meant everything to him, and he couldn't let one drunken, foolish night ruin their friendship. Because he loved her. Not like a girlfriend or fiancee, but as a sister. As the best goddamn best friend ever.

In Salem’s head, all she could hear was a constant pounding so it wouldn’t matter if he decided to talk or not. Imagine taking a jackhammer and drilling right next to your head, that’s how loud it was. Why had she drank so much last night? She couldn’t even remember her reason to go barhopping. It was probably some stupid idea. She hated herself for getting so drunk. She had set her coffee down on an end table before she had buried her head in the couch pillows. She let out a scream into the pillows but that didn’t help it at all. She felt his hand on her back and it was a familiar touch. She didn’t pull away or fight it. She just lay there letting him rub her back, trying to calm herself. All she needed was a few hours or days of sleep and maybe she could think over the situation. She sat up glancing at Caden and pulled him down so that he was sitting next to her. She instantly buried herself into him, her head against his chest. She let confused, angry, sad tears run down her cheeks. She didn’t know what to do. Was this how all the girls felt when they found out that they had just slept with their best friend who was a guy?
When she had thoroughly drenched his shirt with her tears she pulled away and looked at his shirt. She looked away knowing that she looked like shit. “ Sorry, I…” she couldn’t finish her sentence, she couldn’t think. She placed her head in her hands “ If you want to leave you can” she gave him another chance to leave. She wasn’t going to blame him because it was her fault just as much as it was his. She grabbed her cup of coffee and took a sip but the hot liquid did nothing but burn the roof of her mouth. She winced at the feeling and set the cup back down. She heard her cell ring and she was tempted to just let it go. She thought that right now would not be a good time to have a conversation with someone but she got up anyway. This could distract her from the situation at hand. She stumbled over to where her cell was, she didn’t have a landline since she was just here for college, and grabbed it. She slid up the screen accepting the call. “ Hello?” she sounded groggy but it wasn’t her fault.
Another voice came on the phone, it was her old roommate. “ Oh really?” she tried to sound interested but she couldn’t get herself to care about the conversation. Her roommate said that she decided that moving in with her boyfriend was best and Salem found herself nodding. She looked around waiting for her to wrap it up. Yes, when she was hungover she was never in a talking mood. She spoke up “ Right now isn’t a very good time to come to get your stuff. What about tomorrow?” she was glad that she could come tomorrow because what would she think if she saw Caden and her both hungover and obviously not happy. Yes, Caden had been here pretty much every time Salem was so her roommate got accustomed to him as well but it would seem weird. She felt like just hanging up but she resisted. “ Yeah, he’s here” she paused, listening “ Well we’re both feeling like shit right now” she heard a laugh but she couldn’t get herself to laugh along. “ Alright cya” she slid her phone to end the conversation. She walked back into the living room gazing at Caden for a second before collapsing back on the couch. She just laid down not crying or anything. She was numb now, not sure what to say or do. Finally she spoke. “ I’ll take a test in a couple days” she was hoping that she wasn’t pregnant because she wasn’t ready to be a mother yet.
